Our Border pipes have been designed to be light, responsive, with a low air demand , and as easy to play as possible.
The conical bore chanter plays a Highland-type scale in the key of "A", and cross-fingering produces the useful accidentals of 'C' natural, 'E' flat, 'F' natural and high 'g' sharp. The chanter reed is a modified Highland bapipe reed, which is stable with good tone and volume, and easy to replace if required.
The drones are available as either bass/tenor/alto ('Aae') or bass and two tenors ('Aaa'). If in doubt, we recommend the former.

The set illustrated above is in Castello boxwood and black buffalo horn. We also offer Muhuhu/black buffalo horn as used in our 'Solway' pattern smallpipes. Both these woods are light in weight and produce an excellent tone. Other woods such as yew and pear are likely to be available in the near future.
This set is shown with a "suede side out" bag, but will normally be supplied with a velvetor moleskin cover in a choice of colours.
The comparatively low air demand means that our standard nine inch stitched bellows (as used on our smallpipes) are very comfortable with the Border Pipes.
** Now available with blackwood mounts and silver plated ferrules**
